This year’s KIT Venture Fest on 06/30/2015 ignited the Opel Innovation Day in cooperation with the KIT Founders Forge. Representatives of Adam Opel AG were guests this summer and experienced the ‘startup spirit’ at the KIT for a day. In particular, the enthusiastic pitches of the KIT founders left a lasting impression. Thus, the idea arose to organize the established Opel Innovation Day with a startup focus. Startup teams of the KIT and the TU Darmstadt were invited to the Opel headquarters in Ruesselsheim in order to present their business ideas. Together with Opel, a total of eight KIT startups in the automotive sector and related industries were selected for the Opel Innovation Day. Continue reading
On 10/06/2015, the practice-oriented event “From Invention to Innovation” for professional patent management for employees of the KIT was held again in cooperation with the Center for Advanced Technical and Environmental Training (FTU). Fourteen participants came together to receive advanced training on the topics of protection of intellectual property and technology utilization. The KIT Innovation Department (IMA) presented the services for transfer of technology at the KIT.
The half-day events of the program for advanced training (Wissensaufbau und Technologietransfer – Knowledge building and transfer of technology) of the KIT Founders Forge are directed toward inventions that can develop through protection, e.g., in the form of patents ranging to commercialization. Innovations are thus created via an orderly and stringent process that is accompanied by the IMA. Inventions find their way into the economy in the form of technology transfer projects, startups, and the related license agreements. Due to the special circumstances, a separate seminar component is devoted to the transfer of technology in spin-offs. A wide array of services as well as partners and specialists are presented on this topic. Thus, the participants receive a first view of the founding scene at the KIT, the challenges when starting a business, and an initial “gut feeling” of whether they could actually imagine founding their own company. The event was once again topped off with a get-together to discuss individual questions with contact partners of IMA.
The next “From Invention to Innovation” advanced training sessions have already been scheduled: 03/15/2016 and 10/04/2016. Mark your calendar or register directly at the FTU. You can find the seminar in the program using the FTU shorthand MB431.
Founding a company with a scientific basis is a significant challenge, be it during one’s studies or as a new graduate. Alongside learning, tests, and lectures, a business model needs to be developed, the market observed, and a finance plan created. Funding means enabling a first step in order to create the necessary breathing room for this development. However, the willingness of the employer is especially important for scientists who take this path. Continue reading
The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy has expanded its offerings for entrepreneurs and those interested. In cooperation with the career network XING, it has developed a free learning program for entrepreneurs.
The online learning program leads you through the most important stages during the startup process and helps you with many issues. For instance, you receive guidance in finding out whether self-employment is a career opportunity for you. In the individual stages, you find useful information, overviews, and other documents to work on. If you are already in the process of a startup, the learning program helps you in developing a business plan, informs you about different legal forms, and shows you what formalities and documents you need as part of a business startup, among other things.
The guide is built in modules so that you can skip directly to those issues that are important to you. We recommend the learning program as a reference tool. For additional information about the topic of founding, we will gladly advise you in person.
