KIT Entrepreneurship Talk with Prof. Stork – Pioneer of technology transfer at the KIT

Prof. Stork bei den KIT Entrepreneurship TalksOn April 23, 2015, the opening event of the Entrepreneurship Talks for the summer semester 2015 took place. Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Stork, multiple founder of KIT spin-offs, collegial leader of the Institute for Information Processing Technologies (ITIV), and director of the area of embedded systems and sensor engineering at the Research Center for Information Technology was invited as a guest. He talked about his professional career, which impressively combines science and entrepreneurship.

Prof. Stork already began to deal with entrepreneurial thought early on alongside to his pure research activities. His motivation in doing so was his curiosity regarding whether there was a possibility to realize his research results and whether there were already companies on the market that could manufacture products from them. The question about realization or even utilization of research results on the market was not self-evident at the time. It was a novelty and wasn’t viewed very positively. Consequently, Prof. Stork had to initially pursue his project relatively unnoticed.

KIT Entrepreneurship Talks – Mikro Holzer of BrandMaker shares his lessons learned

Holzer began a first attempt at founding while still at school. During his studies at the KIT (the University of Karlsruhe at the time), he was encouraged in his startup plans. He experimented with different ideas and is a successful entrepreneur and provider of a management system for the marketing industry today. KIT Entrepreneurship Talks – “Banana software” and other quirks of IT startups with Ludwig Neer

CAS2_220x220The KIT Entrepreneurship Talks began the year with Ludwig Neer of CAS Software AG. Prospective IT founders and interested people gathered on January 22, 2015 in the Tulla Lecture Hall. Entrepreneur Neer founded CAS as early as 1986 together with Martin Hubschneider, building the company to become today’s market leader for CRM solutions. In his current position on the board for research and technology, Neer continuously works on the development of the company.

Since the startup of CAS about 30 years ago, the IT industry has rapidly changed. Neer witnessed this development and, at the talk, drew personal conclusions about what is different and important for IT startups today. Many changes have to do with the digitalization, the fast pace, and the large competition in the IT sector.

KIT Entrepreneurship Talks – Successful start with Dr. Hoepfner

Under the motto “founders report from real life”, the chair for Entrepreneurship and Technology Management presented the public lecture series “KIT Entrepreneurship Talks”, in which inspiring founder and entrepreneurial persons reported their founding experiences in different industries and faced the questions from the auditorium.

On October 30th, 2014, the event series started in the winter semester 2014/2015 with Dr. Friedrich Georg Hoepfner from Hoepfner Bräu (Hoepfner brewery). With about 120 guests, the “Talk” was well received. The full auditorium at our hosts’, the Technologiefabrik Karlsruhe, shows that there is great interest in the topic of company founding and that many young founders rely on the practically tested experience of successful founders.  Dr. Hoepfner reported in a vivid and charming manner on his path as a founder and business angel. He offered informative insight into his life as an entrepreneur in a manner that was very entertaining for the audience and via instructive and funny anecdotes. All guests were able to experience that Dr. Hoepfner is a passionate entrepreneur and he likes passing on his experiences to the next generation of founders.
